Tello's Free Europe Roaming Runs Until January 31, 2027: What Happens to Your Data After

If you are a US traveler heading to Europe on a Tello plan, the calendar matters. Tello's Free Roaming in Europe page says the promotion is valid until 31 January 2027, after which roaming goes back to being billed from a Pay As You Go balance only.

What the promo does

Under the offer, data and minutes used in Europe come straight out of your regular monthly Tello plan balance, with no extra fees and no need to preload Pay As You Go (PAYG) credit. You switch on International Roaming in your account settings and the phone connects automatically. Tello lists more than 50 destinations, including the UK, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the Azores, plus Madeira and other territories. The page also promotes the Unlimited plan, with 50 GB of full-speed 5G data at home, unlimited talk and text, and Wi-Fi calling that counts against your monthly allowance. Tello cites a 50 GB high-speed roaming limit.

What happens after January 31, 2027

Tello states that after that date roaming will no longer deduct from your monthly allowances, and all European usage will be charged exclusively from your PAYG balance. If you travel after the promotion ends, or expect to use more than your plan limits, Tello advises adding PAYG credit first. If you exhaust your plan allowances during the promo, extra usage is charged to PAYG as well.

A note on dates: some Tello help-center pages that appear in search results have carried an earlier end date, 30 September 2026. The main promo page currently shows 31 January 2027, so check the date on your own account before you fly.

Why this matters for travelers

Included roaming is only as good as its fine print. The promo has an end date, a high-speed cap, a country list that Tello can change, and a rule that new customers must activate the line while still in the US. Anyone who plans a trip for early next year needs to know which side of the deadline they are on.

It also highlights a pattern: carriers are using free or discounted roaming as a retention tool, while travel eSIMs compete on transparent per-trip pricing. For a short trip, an included allowance can be hard to beat. For multi-country trips, longer stays or heavy data use, a dedicated travel eSIM can be simpler because you know the data amount and expiry date up front.

What to do before you go

Check the end date in your Tello account, confirm your destination is on the country list, and turn on roaming before departure. If your trip ends after January 31, 2027, add PAYG credit or consider a prepaid travel eSIM as a backup. Many travelers keep their home line for calls and one-time codes and use a data-only eSIM, such as HOLASIM, for everything else.

Terms can change, so rely on Tello's own pages for the final word.
